Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Every October, our Marietta community comes together to do what we do best: look out for one another. Thirteen years in, that spirit is stronger than ever — and so is the science. Below, we’re sharing some encouraging new progress in breast cancer care, along with one meaningful action we can take together.

It’s easy for awareness months to blend into the background with busy schedules — let the pink ribbons in the month of October be a great reminder to book your mammogram appointment. As your healthcare team, we want this month to mean something real for you. Our goal is not just to share reminders; it’s to make caring for your health simple, personal, and encouraging.

What the Latest Progress Means for You

Breast cancer remains the most common health challenge facing American women today. Although that statistic can feel heavy, there is real hope: early detection is highly effective, and survival rates continue to reach record highs. Taking charge of your health does not have to feel overwhelming — it can begin with one routine appointment.

The One Number That Matters

Every Other Year, Starting at 40

That is the current U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommendation for women at average risk: a screening mammogram every two years from age 40 through 74. If breast cancer runs in your family, talk with your doctor about starting sooner or adding genetic counseling.

Three things worth knowing

A reminder to listen to your body early. While breast cancer diagnosis rates have ticked up slightly — most notably in younger women — this trend is simply a call to be proactive about your wellness earlier in life.
No family history? You still deserve routine care. Only 10–15% of diagnoses stem from genetics. Most cases happen simply through the course of regular life, meaning standard screenings are an important habit for all of us.
Treatment and survival have never been stronger. Even with more diagnoses, care has gotten so effective that deaths continue a steady decline. Today, over four million women are living past a diagnosis — an incredible milestone for modern medicine.

Be sure to book your appointment.
